Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts in the beginning to become a star in the mainstream did not succeed. She was signed to two record labels, but dropped before any of her material had been released. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007 which garnered modest interest for its cheerfully frivolous title track. I Kissed a Girl, a confident love song to her sexual desire that is set to a hard-edged electronic pop beat, made a bigger impression in the following years. The song quickly stirred debate as critics denigrated the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians while others claimed that the sexually explicit scene it depicted catered to masculine fantasies about sexuality. I Kissed a Girl became a worldwide number-one hit due to its combination of sensuality and polished melody. It also helped drive sales of her 2008 album called the album One of the Boys. Along with its lively sharp-tongued, bouncy hit single Hot N Cold also proving an enormous hit, the album that Perry wrote herself eventually registered an impressive 3 million copies across the United States.
